    SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Wittenberg University softball standout Sarah Fetters, class of 2008 from Maumee, Ohio, put the finishing touches on a phenomenal collegiate career with second-team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-America honors. She becomes just the seventh student-athlete in Wittenberg history to earn more than one Academic All-America accolade.

Allegheny's Rachel Ryan and Denison's Bri Scrofano are both repeat first-team selections. Hiram's Chastine Romanello and Wittenberg seniors Sarah Fetters and Nicole Ottavi all make the move up to the first team after earning second-team recognition in previous seasons.

    HIRAM, Ohio — As the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) softball tournament looms nearer and nearer, the Wittenberg Tigers must continue to fight for a spot. Wittenberg may not have made the strongest case Sunday against Hiram, but they did pick up a 'W' in one column at the expense of an 'L' in another. The Hiram Terriers took Game 1 by a score of 3-0, taking advantage of the quiet Tiger bats, while Wittenberg came back to win the second matchup 7-2.

    OBERLIN, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tiger softball team made a strong case for its postseason potential Saturday with an explosive doubleheader against Oberlin. The Red & White poured in 21 runs in Game 1 and 10 in Game 2, while holding the Yeowomen to two runs in each. Both games ended after just five innings.

    SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — A whirlwind day awaited the Wittenberg Tiger softball team at Betty Dillahunt Softball Complex, but who could have guessed it would be this quick? It took just over three hours to complete both games, including the late game which ended halfway through the fifth after the Tigers caused the 10-run rule to go into effect. The final scores were 7-0 in the early game and 12-0 in the later one.

    GRANVILLE, Ohio - An eight-game winning streak came to a dead stop Wednesday, as the Wittenberg Tiger softball team committed four costly errors in game one against Denison to drop a 6-4 decision. In game two, the Tigers came back to win 7-4 over the Big Red.

Wittenberg lost to preseason 21st-ranked Methodist by a score of 3-2 and to 2nd-ranked Wartburg 13-1.

  • News Release: Tigers Picked To Finish Second In NCAC Preseason Poll

    CLEVELAND, Ohio — 2007 NCAC Tournament champion Allegheny emerged as the preseason favorite in balloting by North Coast Athletic Conference softball coaches in their annual preseason poll. The Gators, who last spring finished the regular season with an 9-5 league record, a 19-19 overall mark and their third NCAC tournament crown, earned four of eight first-place votes from league coaches for 59 points. Wittenberg was voted second with 54 points and two first-place votes.

    Coming off the program's most successful season since 2000, the Wittenberg softball team is looking for more in 2008. A total of 11 letterwinners are back in the fold, including six starters, and expectations are high for Head Coach Becky Hall, far and away the coach with the most wins in school history.
