Wittenberg Athletics Identity

We are the Wittenberg Tigers. On first reference in print or online materials, 'Wittenberg University' is preferred. 'The Wittenberg Tigers' or 'Wittenberg University [team name]' are acceptable on first reference. On subsequent references, 'Wittenberg' and 'the Tigers' are acceptable.

  • Witt: A shortened version of Wittenberg generally avoided in print and on the web. May be used where space is a concern, such as Twitter and other social media. Used frequently in broadcasts as an alternate reference to Wittenberg.
  • Tiger Up!: The Wittenberg Athletics rallying slogan 'Tiger Up!' was originated by former coach Davey Maurer and is used by all the Wittenberg teams.
  • Lady Tigers: The term 'Lady Tigers' is not a recognized nickname, and is not an acceptable reference to any Wittenberg varsity athletics teams.
  • Visual Identity: For graphic style guidelines, refer to the Athletics Logos/Graphic Style Guide page.
  • Affiliations: Wittenberg University varsity athletics teams compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference, made up of 10 distinguished schools, all members of NCAA Division III.

Media Services & Policies

Statistics
During home contests, Wittenberg provides live statistics, audio and video coverage of most sports. During football and basketball games, hard copy in-game statistics are available with prior notice. Please alert the staff that you will require hard copy statistics when requesting credentials. Statistics are posted online immediately following each home event and as soon as possible following away events.

Press Box Credentials
Request credentials for any Wittenberg Athletics varsity contest by contacting Sports Information at sportsinfo@wittenberg.edu prior to the event. Credentials are issued to members of the working press on assignment. Space is limited in the pressboxes at Edwards-Maurer Field and Pam Evans Smith Arena, and is prioritized for Athletics Communications and team film staff, live audio and video broadcast personnel, and print writers and photographers.

Photo Credentials
Photographers of any kind (professional or amateur) must request photo passes prior to the event. Credentials must be displayed when entering the facility and while shooting from anywhere besides spectator seating.

Photography/Image Requests
Media in need of specific photo assets may contact Sports Information at sportsinfo@wittenberg.edu to make a request. Wittenberg can provide high-resolution images to recognized media outlets for news purposes upon request, and members of the office are available to help arrange photos.

Interview Requests
All interviews with Wittenberg coaches, student-athletes or staff must be coordinated through the Sports Information staff. To request an interview, contact Sports Information at sportsinfo@wittenberg.edu or 937-327-6471. Interviews may be conducted over the phone or in person. Following games, there is a mandatory 10-minute 'cooling-off' period, during which no coach or student-athlete may be interviewed. After the cooling-off period, student-athletes and coaches will be made available upon request. Wittenberg has a closed locker room policy.

Press Box Internet Access
Wireless internet is available throughout campus without a password by connecting to the unsecure 'Witt-Guest' network. Internet access is not available at Betty Dillahunt Field (softball), and wireless Internet access is available at Carleton Davidson Stadium (baseball) thanks to a partnership with the National Trail Parks and Recreation District and the Champion City Kings baseball club.

Parking
Parking at Wittenberg Athletics facilities is limited. Credentialed media can be included on a parking pass list for football games. Parking for all other sports is first-come, first-serve at each facility.
