Tiger Softball Splits The Day, Stays At .500

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Wittenberg softball split Tuesday's games, winning 2-0 over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (U.S.M.M.A.), but dropping a decision to Eastern Mennonite University by a score of 3-0. The split preserves the Tigers' .500 winning percentage at 3-3.

Highlighting the day was the pitching performance of junior Rachael Hatcher (West Carrollton, Ohio/West Carrollton). Hatcher threw a complete-game shutout against U.S.M.M.A., allowing just five hits and notching seven strikeouts.

Senior shortstop Sarah Fetters (Woodhaven, Mich./Maumee (Ohio)) drove a double to centerfield which scored freshman Jessi Allen (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), and came around to score herself on an error, providing both of Wittenberg's winning runs.

In the loss to Eastern Mennonite, sophomore Brooke Boswell (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) threw six great innings, allowing just four hits, but with Wittenberg's offense suddenly running dry, four hits was enough to sink the Tigers.

The Tigers play Eastern Mennonite again Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., followed by a game against Kings College at 3 p.m. before a day off from the spring break marathon on Thursday.
