Springfield, Ohio — Fittingly, Wittenberg Softball Head Coach Becky Hall reached a landmark Saturday, March 29, surrounded by family and friends on the field she has called home for more than a decade.

A doubleheader sweep of Case Western Reserve University in the friendly confines of Betty Dillahunt Field pushed Hall to 201 career coaching victories. She was quick to point out that they were the Tigers' fifth and sixth straight wins as well, moving Wittenberg to 12-6 on the 2008 season.

"It was nice to celebrate on our home field," said Hall, who now has a career record of 201-166-1 in 10 seasons as the Tigers' head coach after serving as an assistant in the program in 1998. "And it was nice to do it with this team - they are a pretty special group. It is also good that it happened in the middle of a winning streak."

Awarded the distinction of Four-Star Master Coach by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in 2007, Hall is far and away the coach with the most wins in Wittenberg softball history. She is also the only coach to ever lead the Tigers to the NCAA Division III Tournament, which she did in 2000 and 2003, winning an opening round game each time.

Hall's teams have won one North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season title and one NCAC Tournament championship. Also Wittenberg's interim assistant director of athletics and senior woman administrator, Hall has earned NCAC Coach of the Year honors twice in her career.

"It's a blessing to be coaching at Wittenberg every day," said Hall, a 1997 graduate of Urbana University. "This year's team is starting to fill some of the gaps we had after last year's graduation. Our defense has never been more solid.

"This is a competitive, hard-working team. We're getting good results because of those traits."

A native of Springfield, Hall played four seasons of softball at Urbana as a second baseman, and she was named All-Mid-Ohio Conference in both 1996 and 1997. Hall also served as a team captain in those years.

Hall is a coach for the Miami Valley Xpress summer softball team, and she has conducted various camps and clinics to help enhance and encourage girls in the greater Miami Valley to play softball and improve their skills. She has also given back to the community through her involvement in the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) at Wittenberg in 2001 and 2002 for Springfield area children.
