Two Nationally-Ranked Opponents Equals Too Much For Tigers

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Following a relatively easy day on Sunday consisting of two blowout wins, the Wittenberg Tiger softball team faced a much tougher Day 2 against a pair of nationally ranked opponents in Methodist and Wartburg. Wittenberg lost to preseason 21st-ranked Methodist by a score of 3-2 and to 2nd-ranked Wartburg 13-1.

After a great day on the rubber on Sunday, Brooke Boswell (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) had another great day Monday, albeit in different capacities in each game. Against Methodist, Boswell pitched in four innings of relief work, allowing only two hits and was charged with no earned runs. Also against Methodist, she knocked a home run out, the first of the season for the Tigers.

Versus Wartburg, she recorded the Tigers' only two hits, including a single and a triple, falling a double short of the cycle for the day.

Senior Sarah Fetters (Woodhaven, Mich./Maumee (Ohio)) went 2-3 against Methodist, but overall it was a tough day for the Tigers offensively. Though the two losses drop the Tigers to .500 on the young season, there's plenty of softball to play before spring break ends. Tuesday, the Tigers face the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and Eastern Mennonite University at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively.
