Streak Still Alive As Tigers Sweep Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio - A doubleheader sweep of Heidelberg kept a Tiger winning streak alive Sunday, as Wittenberg won their seventh and eighth straight, by scores of 9-8 and 4-1. The wins bring the Tigers to 14-6 on the season overall, with conference play still to begin.

The Tigers went down 5-0 by the end of the third inning in game one, only to strike back in the fourth with two, the fifth with five, and the sixth with two to seal the deal. Down 9-5, Heidelberg came close to evening things up with three runs in the seventh inning, but sophomore pitcher Brooke Boswell (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) held on for the save, and ensured a win for sophomore starter Melisa Shock (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook), who moved to 3-1 with the 'W'.

Offensively, three different players drove two runs home in the game, including senior shortstop Sarah Fetters (Woodhaven, Mich./Maumee (Ohio)) (1-4), sophomore centerfielder Cameron Catalfu (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) (1-3), and Boswell (1-4). Boswell leads the team in both wins (5) and runs batted in (17).

In game two, sophomore pitcher Meghan O'Neill (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) did much of the heavy lifting, holding Heidelberg to just one run on five hits through seven great innings of work. Once again Heidelberg struck quickly with an unearned run in the first, but it was all O'Neill from there on out.

Sophomore catcher Liz Roby (London, Ohio/London) drove in Wittenberg's two RBI as part of a 2-3 outing from the plate, while the other two runs were unearned, including one in the fifth inning, where the Tigers displayed great patience and drew four walks to walk a run in.

The Tigers have just a few days off before heading to Denison University on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
