Tigers Cap Spring Break Trip With Another Split

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Wittenberg Tigers finished up their spring break outings at 5-5 for a second straight year Friday, winning over Mary Washington by a score of 3-1 before falling to Ferrum College 1-2.

In what seemed like deja vu, the Tigers managed to keep on top of their first opponent but could not kick up enough dust from the batter's box to win the second game of the day's doubleheader.

Against Mary Washington, the Red & White benefitted from two RBI courtesy Brooke Boswell (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield), who doubled in the third inning, and one from Nicole Ottavi (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone), with an RBI groundout in the first. Going the distance with a complete game and giving up no earned runs was pitcher Meghan O'Neill (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central).

Boswell took the mound in the second game, and had yet another outstanding outing but suffered from a lack of run support. In six innings of work, Boswell gave up one earned run on just five hits, moving to 1-2 on the season despite only giving up four earned runs in 20 innings so far.

Wittenberg's lone run came in the fourth inning when Julie Ziegler (Sandusky, Ohio/Perkins) drove an RBI single into left field. Spring break comes to a close with Friday's doubleheader, and the Tigers have a week off before traveling to Heidelberg for a 1 p.m. meeting.
