Springfield, Ohio – For the second time in the 2013 season, Wittenberg senior baseball pitcher Zach Finke (Maineville, Ohio/St. Xavier) has earned recognition from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Finke was one of eight pitchers to earn mention in an NCBWA weekly news release distributed on April 25. He was among the pitchers on the Honorable Mention list after throwing the first no-hitter by a Wittenberg pitcher since 1998, a 6-0 masterpiece against Ohio Wesleyan on Sunday, April 21.

Finke was one of four NCAA Division III pitchers to throw a no-hitter during the week, with the National Player of the Week honors going to Derek Slagle of Pennsylvania State University-Harrisburg after he tossed a perfect game. It was Finke’s second time on the NCBWA list after making an Honorable Mention appearance on March 14 after winning a pair of games – both by shutout – during Wittenberg’s strong start to the season at the RussMatt Invitational in Kissimmee, Fla.

Finke also earned North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Pitcher of the Week honors twice during the 2013 season. He has a 5-1 record in 2013, with a 1.77 earned run average in seven appearances, including six starting assignments. He has allowed just 35 hits and seven walks in 40.2 innings. Finke also has a .350 batting average in 11 games, including six starts, as a field player.

The Tigers head into a make-or-break weekend series against visiting DePauw on Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28, with records of 17-13 overall and 3-5 in the NCAC West Division.
