Springfield, Ohio – In recognition of his outstanding start to the 2013 season, Wittenberg senior baseball pitcher Zach Finke (Maineville, Ohio/St. Xavier) earned national recognition from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Finke was one of 10 pitchers to earn mention in an NCBWA weekly news release distributed on March 14. He was among the pitchers on the Honorable Mention list after tossing a pair of complete-game shutouts during the Tigers’ Spring Break trip to Florida.

Finke, who previously earned North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Pitcher of the Week honors, kicked off his final collegiate campaign with a 1-0 win over WPI, in which he allowed just three singles. He followed that up with a four-hit masterpiece – in which he threw just 54 pitches against Union – as the Tigers picked up a 2-0 victory. For the week, Finke did not allow a walk.

As a team, Wittenberg’s pitching staff posted a cumulative earned run average of 2.95 during a 6-1 start to the 2013 season. The Tigers are scheduled to return to action at Capital at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 21, before playing three games against Mount Union over the weekend.
