SPRINGFIELD, OH - Coming off a disappointing 2-1 loss to Denison, the Wittenberg Tigers found themselves in an early hole against another North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) contender. But after conceding a goal less than five minutes into the game against Wooster, the Tigers responded quickly and then pulled away for a much-needed 3-1 victory over the Scots.
Wittenberg improved to 3-4-3 on the season, including a 1-1 record in the early going of the NCAC regular season title chase. Wooster fell to 8-2-2 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Wooster held a 14-12 advantage in shots for the game, but just four of those attempts were directed on frame. Tiger goalkeeper Lily Winkle (Cynthiana, KY / Harrison County) was credited with three saves after allowing a goal to Wooster's Bella Crompton in the fifth minute.
Caroline Stupp (Waynesville, OH / Waynesville) continued her scoring streak, finding the back of the net in the 13th minute to even things at 1-1. That was followed by a goal from Chamberlain Browning (Troy, OH / Troy) five minutes prior to the halftime break that gave Wittenberg the lead, and then Alex Hill (Powell, OH / Olentangy Liberty) gave the Tigers some useful breathing room with a goal less than four minutes into the second half.
Brooke Mullis (Lawrenceburg, IN / Taylor) contributed assists on the goals scored by Stupp and Hill. Browning, Hill, and Sarah Deaton (Monroe, OH / Monroe) each led Wittenberg with two shots in the game.
The Tigers are now off for a week before starting a string of three straight road games at Kenyon on Wednesday, October 16.
