WILMORE, KY – It's three ties in a row now for Wittenberg's Women's Soccer team, who traveled to Kentucky for a non-conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 2, against Asbury College, ranked ninth in the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) coaches poll for the 2024 season. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Ironically, the last time the two teams met on Oct. 4, 2023, the game also ended in a tie at one goal apiece.
Hannah Muncie scored both goals for Asbury in the first half. Her first came off an assist from Anna Sparks and her second was on a penalty kick.
The Tigers struck twice in the second half with the first coming at the 54:59 mark off the foot of Brooke Mullis (Lawrenceburg, IN / Taylor). Wittenberg then tied the score at 2-all at the 81:18 mark on a goal by Sarah Deaton (Monroe, OH / Monroe) with an assist from Alex Hill (Powell, OH / Olentangy Liberty).
Each team had one assist. Wittenberg tallied 13 shots, seven on goal, and 10 corner kicks. Asbury had 12 shots, five on goal, and four corner kicks. The Eagles had 12 fouls to Wittenberg's five, however, the Tigers were yellow carded twice.
Wittenberg goalkeeper Lily Winkle (Cynthiana, KY / Harrison County) had three saves on the night.
The tie puts Wittenberg at 2-3-3 on the season, while Asbury goes to 4-3-2.
Next up, the Tigers will battle Denison at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 in a North Coast Athletic Conference matchup during Homecoming, Reunion, and Family Weekend.
