ALLIANCE, OH - The Wittenberg women's soccer team hit the road for the second time in four days, and this time the Tigers put together two solid halves of soccer en route to a 2-1 win over host Mount Union.

The win moved the Tigers, coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss at Mount St. Joseph on September 10, to 2-3 on the season. Mount Union also has a 2-3 record on the season. NOTE: As a result of threats to members of Wittenberg's campus community on Sunday, September 15, all events and activities, including the women's soccer game against Capital, have been cancelled.

The Tigers broke the ice against the Purple Raiders with a goal at the 26:58 mark of the first half. Freshman Sarah Deaton (Monroe, OH / Monroe) outworked several Mount Union defenders in the penalty area to score the goal, off a feed from Alex Hill (Powell, OH / Olentangy Liberty).

After taking that slim one-goal margin into the locker room at halftime, Brooke Mullis (Lawrenceburg, IN / Taylor) provided some all-important cushio with an unassisted goal in the 62nd minute. The Purple Raiders pulled one goal back at the 86:02 mark, but the Tiger defense held on from there to secure the win.

In goal, Lily Winkle (Cynthiana, KY / Harrison County) was credited with four saves in the game. At the other end of the field, Deaton led Wittenberg's offense with four shots, followed by Hill with two. Ava Otey (Columbus, OH / Olentangy Orange), Courtney Lindgren (Maineville, OH / Kings), and Mullis had the other shots for Wittenberg, which trailed Mount Union by one as a team in that category. The Tigers held a 5-2 edge in corner kick opportunities.

With the cancellation of Sunday's game, Wittenberg now has a week off before a busy weekend that starts with a road trip to Adrian on Saturday, September 21, and concludes with a home game against Franklin on Sunday, September 22.
