2006 ews

It may be closer to the start of the 2007 soccer season than it is to the end of the 2006 campaign, but that does nothing to diminish the recently announced All-Ohio awards given to five members of the Wittenberg women's soccer team and one player on the Wittenberg men's soccer team.

As usual, summer will be a busy time around the Wittenberg University athletics complex in 2007. Twelve different Wittenberg varsity athletic teams - men's basketball, women's basketball, field hockey, football, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball, are sponsoring summer camps this year.

The Wittenberg men's and women's soccer teams rounded out a tremendous 2006 season by placing five players on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Great Lakes Region teams.

After the best season in a decade for Wittenberg University's women's soccer team in 2005, the Tigers reloaded and set their sights on the NCAA Division III Tournament. Mission accomplished.

One of the most successful fall sports seasons in Wittenberg history was capped by a tremendous haul of postseason awards from the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Wooster senior forward Erin Lustic (Cleveland Hts., OH/Cleveland Hts.) and Denison junior defender Kim Cochran (Upper Arlington, OH/Upper Arlington) have been named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year to highlight the 2006 All-North Coast Athletic Conference women's soccer selections.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — After 110 minutes of scoreless NCAA Division III Tournament women's soccer, five penalty kicks per team weren't even enough to settle the rubber match between the Wittenberg Tigers and the Denison Big Red.

For the first time in school history the Wittenberg women's soccer team not only hosted an NCAA Division III Tournament game, the Tigers emerged victorious, beating Ohio Athletic Conference regular season champion Otterbein, 2-1.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg University women's soccer team has earned the opportunity to play in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in school history. The Tigers, fresh off a 1-0 win at home over Denison University in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship game on Saturday, were also selected to host three first- and second-round games of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Wittenberg Tigers have developed a formula for women's soccer success in recent years. After following it to a tee in their first North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship match, the Tigers have their first trophy for the university's case after a 1-0 home win over Denison.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Wittenberg University women's soccer standout Amanda Farrell, class of 2008 from Loveland, Ohio, has been recognized for the combination of her athletic and academic accomplishments with second-team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division All-District IV honors.

MEADVILLE, Pa. — Hosting their first North Coast Athletic Conference game in school history, the Wittenberg Tigers faced a familiar conference foe, the Wooster Scots. The Tigers did what they had only done one time previous as they defeated the Scots, 2-0, to advance to their second NCAC Tournament championship game in three years.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Few student-athletes can boast they started every game of their collegiate career. Wittenberg University women's soccer standout Jaime McIntyre, class of 2007 from Columbus, Ohio, can now make that claim.

The Wittenberg Tigers controlled their North Coast Athletic Conference destiny heading into the final game of the 2006 regular season, but 110 minutes in the cold, rain and wind at Allegheny College later the Tigers had nothing more than a 0-0 tie to show their efforts.

On a cold senior night, on which the Wittenberg Tigers' lone senior Jamie McIntyre (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview) was recognized before the game, the Tigers knew they had a tough challenge ahead of them against perennial powerhouse Ohio Wesleyan. In the 21-year history of Wittenberg women's soccer, the Tigers had beaten OWU just once - in addition to two ties.

The Wittenberg Tigers moved to the forefront of the North Coast Athletic Conference title chase Saturday with a 3-1 victory at Oberlin. In the process, senior defender Jamie McIntyre (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview) moved into the record books.
