Women's Lacrosse falls 14-8 to Transylvania

SPRINGFIELD — The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team fell 14-8 to Transylvania on Tuesday evening.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (3-2 overall), Transylvania (2-4 overall)
  • Venue: Edwards-Maurer Field - Springfield, Ohio
  • Tuesday marked the Tigers' first outdoor home game of the season, as they played their first two home games indoors at The Steemer due to inclement weather.

Stat Leaders

  • Senior Jessica Flick (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) led Wittenberg with four goals for her fourth hat trick of the season. She also had four ground balls.
  • Sophomore Anna Roller (New Albany, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) posted three points on two goals and one assist. She added seven ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers.
  • Freshman Maddy Krasnow (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) added two goals.
  • Junior Gabrielle Weckerly (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) played 30 minutes in goal for the Tigers and made five saves.
  • Junior Sidney Sheridan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) played the remaining 30 minutes in goal and recorded 11 saves.
  • Diana Bruder led the Pioneers with five goals.

The Game

  • Bruder opened the game with back-to-back goals and added a third with 9:06 left in the first quarter after Krasnow netted a goal, putting the Pioneers up 3-1.
  • Flick and Roller scored goals with 7:19 and 5:58 left, respectively, to tie the score at 3-all, but the Pioneers answered with two goals to close the quarter for a 5-3 edge going into the second period.
  • Flick opened the scoring in the second quarter, but Transylvania ended the first half on a 3-0 run for an 8-4 halftime edge.
  • After the Pioneers took a 9-4 lead early in the third quarter, Flick and Krasnow scored back-to-back goals to cut the Tigers' deficit to 9-6.
  • The Pioneers extended their advantage back out to five, 11-6, with back-to-back goals to close the third quarter.
  • Flick and Roller both scored goals for the Tigers over the final 15 minutes, but the Pioneers netted three goals of their own to secure the 14-8 victory.
  • Transylvania out-shot Wittenberg by a 36-28 margin and won 16 draw controls to the Tigers' 10.
  • Wittenberg finished with a 37-26 edge in ground balls.

Records & Milestones

  • Wittenberg is now 1-4 all-time against Transylvania.
  • Flick has 124 career points on 108 goals and 16 assists. She is 12 goals and 28 points shy of entering the program's all-time top 10 list in those categories. She has a team-high 24 points and 22 goals this season.
  • Roller has 15 goals and a team-high seven assists for 22 points this season. She has 38 career points on 30 goals and eight assists.
  • Sheridan has 244 career saves, which is seven shy of joining the program's all-time top 10 list in that category. Weckerly has 169 career saves.
