Women’s Lacrosse Falls to DePauw in NCAC Opener

GREENCASTLE, IN. – Wittenberg's women's lacrosse team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play on the road at DePauw Tuesday night, April 8, at Reavis stadium.

DePauw came out strong with a big first half scoring eight in the first and six and the second to take a 14-2 lead after two. The Tigers slowed down in the third and fourth, scoring four each and holding Wittenberg to just one goal in the fourth for a big 22-3 victory. 

With the loss, Wittenberg falls to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in the NCAC while DePauw improves to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in the conference.  

Three different players scored for Witt including Alyssa Burnside (Galloway, OH / Hilliard Bradley), Hannah Peterson (Cedarville, OH / Cedarville), and Jarya Hassell  (Bellbrook, OH / Bellbrook).

Team Leaders

  • Alyssa Burnside (Galloway, OH / Hilliard Bradley) had two shots, two on goal, one ground ball, and one caused turnover.
  • Hannah Peterson (Cedarville, OH / Cedarville) had three shots, one on goal, one ground ball, two draw controls, and one caused turnover.
  • Jarya Hassell  (Bellbrook, OH / Bellbrook) had two shots, and one on goal.
  • Grace Kennedy (Dublin, OH / Coffman) added an assist.
  • Maggie Pickrel (Centerville, OH / Centerville) and Haley Pitman (Liberty Township, OH / Ursuline Academy) led the team in ground balls with two each. Pitman also had two caused turnovers.
  • Sidney Sheridan  (Columbus, OH / Bishop Hartley) tallied nine saves on the night.

Team Comparison

  • Wittenberg had 3 goals on the night, 10 shots, five on goal, eight ground balls, six draw controls, and six caused turnovers. The Tigers were one-for-two in free-position shots.
  • DePauw had 22 goals, 10 assists, 51 shots and 33 on goal, 13 ground balls, 21 draw controls, nine caused turnovers, and was three-for-nine in free-position shots. 
  • Wittenberg had 11 saves to two for DePauw.
