Women’s Lacrosse Posts 17-7 Victory Over Bethany

SPRINGFIELD, OH. – Five players scored three goals each as Wittenberg's women's lacrosse team coasted to a 17-7 victory Wednesday night, March 19, in non-conference action at Edwards-Maurer Field.

Hannah Peterson (Cedarville, OH / Cedarville), Aubrey Stager (Saline, MI / Saline), Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy), Jarya Hassell (Bellbrook, OH / Bellbrook), and Grace Kennedy (Dublin, OH / Coffman) each scored three goals for the Tigers, now 3-4 on the season. Bethany drops to 1-6 overall.

Wittenberg came out strong, scoring four in the first and seven in the second period to take an 11-2 lead at the break. The Tigers continued the onslaught scoring five more in the third, then one more in the final for the big win. Wittenberg had just nine turnovers in the game to Bethany's 15. 

The Tigers, averaging over 12 goals per game, have found the net 76 times this season.

Team Leaders

  • Aubrey Stager (Saline, MI / Saline) had six shots, five on goal and led the team in ground balls with 10. She also registered two draw controls, and one caused turnover.
  • Hannah Peterson (Cedarville, OH / Cedarville) has six shots, five on goal, eight ground balls, three draw controls, and one caused turnover.
  • Grace Kennedy (Dublin, OH / Coffman) tallied four shots, four on goal, and two ground balls. Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) added eight shots, five on goal, six ground balls, and eight draw controls. Jarya Hassell (Bellbrook, OH / Bellbrook) had five shots, three on goal, and one ground ball.
  • Alyssa Burnside (Galloway, OH / Hilliard Bradley) and Maren Raymond (Louisville, KY / Ballard) scored the other Wittenberg goals. Burnside had five ground balls, a draw control, and a caused turnover, while Raymond added an assist, a ground ball, and a caused turnover. 
  • Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange) recorded an assist and three ground balls. 
  • Makenna Ricketts (Chardon, OH / Chardon) and Sidney Sheridan (Columbus, OH / Bishop Hartley) shared time in the goal, collecting four saves on the night.

Team Comparison

  • Wittenberg had 17 goals on the night, 33 shots, 25 on goal, 44 ground balls, 14 draw controls, and seven caused turnovers. The Tigers were six-for-12 in free-position shots.
  • Bethany had 12 shots, 11 on goal, 20 ground balls, 12 draw controls, four caused turnovers, and was three-for-five in free-position shots.
