Tigers Fall to Regionally Ranked Wooster

SPRINGFIELD, OH-The Tigers took on the College of Wooster Fighting Scots for their Senior Recognition Day game. The team honored their four seniors, Annie Miloser (Saline, MI / Saline), Grace Kennedy (Dublin, OH / Coffman), Sidney Sheridan (Columbus, OH / Bishop Hartley) and Gabrielle Weckerly (Delaware, OH / Hayes) before the game.

The Tigers and their seniors were able to keep the game close in the first half before utimately falling, 15-5. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 4-9 (0-4 NCAC) and the Fighting Scots, ranked first in the region, improve to 15-1 (5-0).

In the first quarter, the Tigers were held scoreless, but despite their lack of scoring, they were only down three as they were able to stay within striking distance of the Fighting Scots. In the second quarter, Wooster posted another five goals, but Wittenberg found the back of the net twice as Hannah Peterson (Cedarville, OH / Cedarville) scored on a free position shot only one minute into the quarter and added her second with three minutes remaining in the half. Entering the third quarter, the Tigers trailed 8-2 and scored another two goals, both from Aubrey Stager (Saline, MI / Saline) within the last four minutes. Wooster had a good third quarter as well, scoring four goals, so the Tigers entered the final quarter battling an eight-goal deficit. In the fourth, Wittenberg held Wooster to their lowest goals total on the day at three, while scoring for Wittenberg was Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange) to make the final score 15-5.

Team Leaders

  • Stager and Peterson each led the team in goals with two and Peterson led in shots with nine, six of which were on goal.
  • Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy) paced the team in assists with two and led in draw controls with three.
  • Leading in ground balls was Peterson with nine, followed by Alyssa Burnside (Galloway, OH / Hilliard Bradley) with four.

Team Comparison

  • Wooster led Wittenberg in all stats aside from free position attempt percentage. The Tigers converted on their lone free position shot attempt to be 1-1 for 100%, while the Fighting Scots went 3-8 for thier mark to be 37.5%.

The Tigers return to action at Edwards-Maurer Field on Tuesday, April 22nd as they will take on Kenyon at 7:00 p.m.
