Tigers Open Home Schedule With Big Win Over Tiffin

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers opened the home portion of the 2010 schedule with a convincing 21-8 victory over visiting Tiffin.

The offensive barrage on a sun-drenched afternoon moved the Tigers to 4-1, heading into another non-conference home contest against Albion at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 20.

Sophomore Jenn Close (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) led the outburst, pouring in career-highs of six goals and nine total points. Her six goals were three short of the school record and equaled the third-best total in program history, same as the nine points.

Close had plenty of company on the attack, including sophomore Lindsey Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) with four goals and senior Joelle Ghanem (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) with four goals and one assist. In addition, freshman Erin Guiliano () contributed three goals and two assists, juniorMaggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) chipped in with two goals and two assists, sophomore Krissy Battles (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) finished with one goal and two assists and sophomore Erica Piscitelli (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) rounded out the scoring with one goal.

Amorello added a game-high 11 ground balls, while Guiliano was solid as well with three caused turnovers and three draw controls. Sophomore Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) made four saves in the first half as the Tigers built a 12-6 lead before giving way to senior Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School), who made four saves of her own in the final 30 minutes.
