Comeback Bites Tigers Again In Loss To Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team saw their opponent launch a late-game comeback for the second-straight game as Denison scored 12 goals in the second half to win over the Tigers 14-10 Thursday night. Wittenberg falls to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
The loss came despite the hard work of the Tiger defense, which held Denison to just two goals in the first half en route to a 4-2 lead at the break. Denison took advantage of turnovers at the other end of the field to outscore Wittenberg 12-6 in the second half.
Sophomore midfielder Katie Frey (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) worked hard as an integral part of that Tiger defense, winning two draw controls on the night and contributing plenty of hustle. Senior goalkeeper Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School) played the entire game in goal with 11 saves, including nine during the relentless Big Red second half attack.
Freshman midfielder Erin Guiliano (Loveland, Ohio/Kings) paced the offense with three goals, one assist and five draw controls, and sophomore defender Jessica Mead (Columbus, Ohio/The Wellington School) and sophomore attacker Lindsey Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School For Girls) each found the net twice.
Junior midfielder Jordan Beauchamp (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern)took to the field for the first time in 2010 after recovering from an injury and scored one goal, joined by junior attacker Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) and freshman midfielder Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill)to round out the scoring line. Morrissey also assisted on one Tiger goal.
The Tigers continue NCAC action with a home game versus Oberlin Saturday, April 10, beginning at 2 p.m.
