Tigers Roll Past Dallas To Remain Unbeaten

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Wittenberg Tigers moved to 3-0 on the young 2010 season and 2-0 on their Spring Break swing through the Lone Star state with a 19-6 victory over the University of Dallas.

The Tigers scored early and often in this one, sparked by freshman Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) and her four goals. Wittenberg led 10-5 by halftime with seniorBonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School) making one save in goal, and the Tigers kept up the pressure over the final 30 minutes as freshman goalkeeper Katie Bondy (Westerville, Ohio/South) made three saves in helping her team to a 9-1 advantage.

Sophomore Lindsey Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls)and freshman Erin Guiliano (Loveland, Ohio/Kings) added three goals apiece, while sophomore Jenn Close (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) contributed a career-high five assists to go along with her two scores. Also of note was the play of seniorJoelle Ghanem (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) with two goals and an assist and sophomore Krissy Battles (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) with one goal and two assists. Rounding things out was two goals from freshman Katie Warner (Delaware, Ohio/Olentangy) and one goal apiece from sophomore Katie Frey (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) and junior Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy).

The win, coming on the heels of a 12-2 rout of Colby-Sawyer on Sunday, gave the Tigers momentum heading into a game against No. 2-ranked Gettysburg at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 9. Wittenberg heads back to Ohio on Wednesday and will open the home portion of the 2010 schedule with games against Tiffin on March 17 and Albion on March 20.
