Wittenberg Falls To Cortland State

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - After a season-opening win against Roger Williams on Monday, the Wittenberg Tigers came back to earth on Tuesday in a 15-2 loss to perennial powerhouse Cortland State, the defending champion of the always-tough State University of New York Athletic Conference.

The loss dropped Wittenberg to 1-1 on the young season, heading into Friday's Spring Break finale against Gordon, also a 2004 conference champion.

Sophomore goaltender Clare Bucheit made 20 saves in the game for Wittenberg, compared to two saves for her Cortland State counterpart. Wittenberg's goals came from sophomore Kari Thomas and senior Jenny Burns, both in the second half after the Tigers fell behind 9-0 by halftime.
