Wittenberg Tops Notre Dame (Ohio)

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers have now doubled their win total from the 2004 season, thanks to their latest victory, a 16-11 decision at Notre Dame (Ohio). The Tigers are now 4-3 overall, with the North Coast Athletic Conference season fast approaching.

Wittenberg jumped out to an 8-4 lead by halftime and then cruised through the second half to victory. In goal, sophomore Clare Bucheit recorded five saves.

Offensively, the Tigers spread the wealth. Freshman Emine Cirpili had her first four-goal game to lead the onslaught, and senior Jenny Burns ran the attack well with two goals and four assists. Sophomores Michelle Hanners and Kari Thomas added two goals and two assists each, junior Emily Hiscar finished with one goal and two assists, sophomore Melissa Jackson chipped in with three scores and freshman Amber Cupples rounded things out with one goal and one assist.

The Tigers finally open the home portion of the 2005 schedule with a game Saturday night against St. Vincent. That game will also put the wraps on the non-conference portion of the schedule, with six varsity games and an exhibition against Earlham remaining on the slate.
