
Winchester, VA - The Wittenberg baseball team headed over to Winchester, Virginia, to take on three teams over two days at the Shenandoah Invitational. Immaculata was the first team on the weekend slate for the Tigers, and they took advantage of all their opportunities for a resounding 23-5 win for Game 1 on the weekend.
Nate Floyd (Akron, OH/Copley) took the mound to start the weekend for the Tigers, going three innings against Immaculata and giving up five runs on six hits and three walks. Senior Kyle Mahon (Dayton, OH/Centerville) and freshman Wade Thewes (Parker, CO/Lutheran) both pitched in relief, combining to hold Immaculata without another run while allowing just two hits and striking out five batters. Mahon was credited with the win to move to 2-0 on the young season.
The bats were very hot to start the weekend for the Tigers, as the team racked up 18 hits in the game. Eight different players were also credited with RBIs in the game. A big-time bright spot for the Tigers' offense was junior Daniel Gladden (Galena, OH/Olentangy Berlin), who went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a solo home run. Gladden also drove in three runs.
Also having big games at the plate against Immaculata were Tommy Chilicki (Lewis Center, OH/Olentangy) with two hits and three runs scored, Ben Seibert (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) with two hits and three RBIs, Alex Nemunaitis (Perrysburg, OH/Ottawa Hills) with two hits, two RBIs, and three runs, and James MacAuley (Grosse Pointe Woods, MI/Grosse Pointe North) with a 3-for-4 day that also included three RBIs and two runs.
The Tigers improved to 3-1 on the season with the win, while the Mighty Macs dropped to 0-5.
