
SPRINGFIELD, OH/OBERLIN, OH - The Wittenberg track and field teams hosted the Wittenberg Invite while also having four athletes compete in the heptathlon and pentathlon at Oberlin to begin scoring for the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Indoor Championships
Competing in the men's heptathlon at Oberlin was Nicolas Farfoglia (Manchester, MD / Manchester Valley) who earned two team points for Wittenberg by finishing in seventh place. In the women's pentathlon, Wittenberg had four competitors. Finishing in second place to earn All-NCAC honors and earn eight team points for the Tigers was Izzy Henderson (East Liberty, OH / Benjamin Logan). She was followed by Ziciah Gibson (Cambridge, OH / Cambridge), who finished in fifth and earned four points, while Cayla Eaton (North Lewisburg, OH / Triad) and Lainee Valentine (Marion, OH / River Valley) finished seventh and eighth to earn another two points and one point, respectively.
At the Wittenberg Invite, the meet was not scored, but there were athletes on both the women's and men's sides who finished well. First, in the men's events, Justin Norris (Middletown, OH / Middletown Christian) took third in the high jump with a leap of 1.94 meters. Max Martindale (Mason, OH / Lakota West) grabbed third in the shot put with a throw of 14.85 meters. In the 500 meters Mason Duncan (Cardington, OH / Highland) secured another third-place finish with a time of 1:07.93.
For the women, Story Laing (Granville, OH / Granville) finished third in the pole vault with a height of 3.45 meters. Taylor Weiss (Powell, OH / Olentangy Liberty) also took third in the high jump with a jump of 1.64 meters. Then, in the 60-meter dash, Meghan Frazier (Alliance, OH / Alliance) took fifth with a time of 7.77.
The next time both the Tigers will compete is Friday and Saturday, February 28 and March 1, also at Oberlin, for the NCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Wittenberg's women are favored to win their third straight indoor league championship, while the Tiger men are picked to finish second.
