Tigers Start Outdoor Season with First Place Crowns

Cincinnati, OH -- The track and field team opened their outdoor season at the Mount St. Joseph Invitational where both the men's team and the women's team took first place with 92 points going to the women and 110 to the men. The women took nine first place finishes, including sophomore Mckenna Bruce who took first in hammer throw and shot put while collecting points from third place in discus. In each event a Witt runner was in for the women, no less than six points were collected. In the 1500 meter, the Tigers took second through fifth place with sophomore Corin Turkovich in second, freshman Meghan Keys in third, senior Elizabeth Canright in fourth and senior Morgan Ely in fifth. In the 3,000 meter run, Wittenberg seniors took three of the top four spots, Lauren Welker leading the pack in first with a huge lead, Emma Scritchfield in second and Caroline Arndt taking fourth. On the short sprint side, freshman Reese Neumeyer picked up first place in both the 100 and 400 meter hurdle events. 

On the men's side, in all but three events that Tigers competed in at least one athlete scored points. Wittenberg took the most points in the 800 meter and the 1500 meter races, taking four of the top five spots. Freshman Ephram Evans took second in both events with junior Evan Cordle taking first in the 800 and senior Deven Ramsey in first in the 1500 who also came in second in the 3,000. In both hurdle races, graduate Garrin Bachinski took first with freshman Dustin Franks in second in the 110 hurdle race. 

The team will be heading down to Emory University for the Emory Invitiational on Friday and Saturday March 25 and 26.
