Track & Field Finishes Strong Through the Home Stretch

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Tigers took on conference foes at the North Coast Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships on May 5 and 6. Wittenberg made numerous all-conference finishes among their top-eights over the Friday and Saturday. The Tigers finished third for the men with 117 points, the best overall team performance since 2005. Scoring 65.5 points, the women placed fifth overall in the conference. Leading to the success of the Tigers was Tyler Gittins, as the senior was named NCAC Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year.

WOMEN'S ALL-NCAC FINISHES

Olivia Stevens, junior, began the conference series placing third overall in the heptathlon after key finishes in the 200 meter dash and 100 meter hurdles.

Junior Anissa Dann threw a distance of 44.58 meters for third place in the hammer throw.

Freshman Tyra Barnes and senior Alaina Longshore claimed second and third places respectively, clocking in at 59.14 and 59.43 seconds.

Stevens also raced her way to a second place victory in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.50 seconds.

The 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Samantha Mitchell, Barnes, Tiarra Avant, and Longshore claim third place with their time of 49.79 seconds.

Barnes, Alexis Gray, Katelyn McCohn, and Longshore with their time of 4:05.51 claim second place in the 4x400 meter relay.

MEN'S ALL-NCAC FINISHES

Charles Rodeheffer, sophomore, crossed the line at 33:01.34 for third place in the 10,000 meter run.

Freshman Jardyan Mitchem reached a height of 4.21 meters to take third place in pole vault.

Claiming the crown in shot put was D'Anthony Dorsey, throwing 15.05 meters for first place.

Tyler Branton, freshman, dashed 200 meters in 22.53 seconds for second place.

Senior Cody Shutt dominated the 400 meter dash with a first place victory and a time of 49.35 seconds.

Gittins hurdled his way to a third place finish with a time of 14.91 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles.

Sophomore Tay Morton cleared 1.88 meters in high jump for third place.

Gittins also paced through the 400 meter hurdles, claiming a first place victory with his time of 54.36 seconds.

The 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Branton, Marcus O'Neal, Jalen Fultz, and Brandon Johnson claim third place with their time of 43.40 seconds.

Shutt, Ryan Hale, Kenny Mayes, and Gittins with their time of 3:20.62 claim second place in the 4x400 meter relay.
