
Oberlin, OH - Wittenberg Women's Basketball traveled to Oberlin to take on the Yeowomen after losing their last two in conference play. The Tigers were able to add another win to their record with a 72-55 win.
The Tigers' record now stands at 15-8 (7-5 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC)), and the Yeowomen are now 12-11 (6-6 NCAC). The win also keeps the Tigers tied for third place in the NCAC standings with two games remaining in the regular season.
In the first quarter, scoring was hard to come by and Wittenberg went into the second facing a six-point deficit. By halftime, scoring had picked up for both teams and the Oberlin lead was down to five. The Tigers went on a run in the third quarter and took a three-point lead, 43-40, heading into the last quarter of play. In the fourth, after multiple threes from McKenna Baker (Brownsburg, IN / Bethesda Christian) and Kelsey Ragan (Whitehouse, OH / Anthony Wayne), Wittenberg went on a 29-point run to turn the lead into a rout, winning by a total of 17 points.
Team Leaders
- Riane Burton (Houston, TX / Cypress Ranch) led the team with 15 points, with Baker scoring 14 of her own off the bench, and Karsen Karlblom (Crystal Lake, IL / Prairie Ridge) and Jazmyn Gaines-Burns (Bladensburg, MD / Elizabeth Seton) each dropping 11 to round out the players in double-figures.
- Burton led the team in rebounds as well with eight and Gaines-Burns pulled down five.
- Taryn Cash (Cincinnati, OH / Princeton) dished out four assists to lead the Tigers and Madi Barnett (Cincinnati, OH / Kings) added three off the bench.
- Baker also led the team in steals with four and Burton, Gaines-Burns and Barnett each logged one block apiece.
Team Comparison
- The Tigers shot a better percentage from three, 36% to 31%, and from the charity stripe, 83%-40%, while shooting 24 free throws to Oberlin's five.
- Wittenberg turned the ball over only 11 times compared to Oberlin's 21. That led to 23 points off turnovers for the Tigers and only 11 for the Yeowomen.
- The Tigers also led in fast break points, 13-4, and had 23 bench points in comparison to Oberlin's 20.
