Women’s Basketball Posts 63-31 Road Victory Over Kenyon

GAMBIER, OH - Wittenberg's women's basketball team held Kenyon to single digits in three out of four quarters to defeat the Owls, 63-31, Wednesday, Feb. 5, in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) road game.  

It was the third win in a row for the Tigers, who improved to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in the conference and currently sit in third place behind Ohio Wesleyan and DePauw. It was also the second win of the season over Kenyon as Wittenberg won the first meeting, 82-43.

Wittenberg outscored the Owls 17-4 in the first quarter and added 22 more in the second to take a 39-15 lead at the break. The Tigers held Kenyon to just 16 points in the second half and were never threatened during the game. The Owls fell to 2-17 overall and 0-9 in the NCAC.

Wittenberg forced Kenyon into 16 turnovers and scored 19 points off the miscues. The Tigers led in all stats during the game. 

Team Leaders

  • Karsen Karlblom (Crystal Lake, IL / Prairie Ridge) paced the team in scoring with 13 points. 
  • Karley Moore (Tipp City, OH / Bethel) led the team in rebounds with six. 
  • Riane Burton (Houston, TX / Cypress Ranch) added 11 points and five rebounds. She also had three blocks.
  • Taryn Cash (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) recorded three steals on the night.

  • Wittenberg led in all the stats.
  • The Tigers led in shooting percentage from the field, 39.1% to 22% for Kenyon.
  • Wittenberg had control of the boards, outrebounding the Owls, 47-34. 
  • Wittenberg had more assists than Kenyon, 11-5. The Tigers also had 12 steals.
  • The Tigers had 22 bench points, seven blocks, 12 fastbreak points, 17 second-chance points, and 46 points in the paint.
