Wittenberg Women’s Basketball Races Past Hilbert, 88-26

PITTSFORD, NY – Wittenberg's Women's Basketball came out on fire against Hilbert to post a one-sided 88-26 victory on the opening day of the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Tournament, hosted by St. John Fisher University.

The Tigers shot 49.3 percent from the field (36-of-73), outscoring Hilbert 47-13 in the first half and 41-13 in the second half to claim their first victory of the season and improve to 1-1 overall.

In this first-ever meeting between the two teams, Wittenberg scored 33 points off Hilbert's 20 turnovers and got 30 points from the bench. The Tigers' largest lead was 62 points at the 7:43 mark of the fourth quarter. Wittenberg was 6-of-7 from the charity stripe, and the Tigers outrebounded the Hawks, 43-27.

Jazmyn Gaines-Burns (Bladensburg, MD / Elizabeth Seton) led Wittenberg with 23 points and four assists. Also scoring in double digits were Karsen Karlblom (Crystal Lake, IL / Prairie Ridge) with 13 points and Molly Mossing (Cedarville, OH / Cedarville) with 10 off the bench. Payton Cronen (Louisville, KY / Assumption) and McKenna Baker (Brownsburg, IN / Bethesda Christian) led the team in rebounds with nine and eight, respectively.

Team totals for Wittenberg included 24 assists, 17 steals, and just eight turnovers. Hilbert, which drops to 0-3 on the season, was limited to just 18.2 percent shooting from the field and had three assists and two steals in the game. The Hawks were led by Kelsey Schlagenhauf's eight points and Kylie Morgan's six rebounds.

St. John Fisher lost to Ohio Northern, 59-53, in the other game on the opening day of the tournament. On Sunday, Nov. 17, the tournament will continue with Wittenberg taking on host St. John Fisher at 3:30 p.m. and Hilbert will take on Ohio Northern at 1:30 p.m.
