Tiger Track & Field Excels at WashU and Denison Meets

ST. LOUIS, MO/GRANVILLE, OH - Wittenberg Men's and Women's Track & Field sent a small group of distance runners to Washington University on Friday, March 28, to race against top-notch competition and the rest of the team participated in the Lid-Lifter, hosted by Denison University, on Saturday, March 29.

At the WashU Distance Festival, Wittenberg entered four runners in the 10,000 meter races. Tiger women who competed in a 100-runner field that included numerous competitors representing NCAA Division I and II scholarship programs included Megan Keys (Dublin, OH / Jerome) finished 54th in 37:51.00, Emma Hawk (Marion, OH / River Valley) finished 65th in 38:34.19, and Maddi Clark (Mentor, OH / Mentor) finished 67th in 38:43.56. On the men's side, Conor Kolka (Dexter, MI / Dexter) finished 42nd in a time of 30:40.11 out of 100 runners entered, again including numerous NCAA Division I and II scholarship runners.

In the Denison Lid-Lifter, three Tiger men placed first in their individual events: Troy Crosby (Clayton, OH / Northmont) won the discus with a mark of 43.05 meters; Justin Norris (Middletown, OH / Middletown Christian) placed first in the high jump with a mark of 1.96 meters; and Jack Kittle (Chagrin Fall, OH / Chagrin Falls) finished first in the 200 meters in a time of 21.54. In addition, Wittenberg's 4x100-meter relay team of Elijah Simmons (Jacksonville, FL / Groveport), Cameron Elliott (Springfield, OH / Springfield), Kittle, and Caiden Allen (Ontario, OH / Plymouth) finished first in a time of 41.39.

Other top-five finishes for Wittenberg's men at Denison were:

  • In the 200 meters, Simmons took third in 21.65, and Elliott finished fourth in 22.04;
  • In the hammer throw, Max Green (Centerville, OH / Centerville) finished second with a mark of 46.83 meters and AJ Sutherly (Marysville, OH / Marysville) took fourth with a mark of 42.83 meters;
  • In the shot put, Max Martindale (Mason, OH / Lakota West) placed third with a mark of 13.64 meters;
  • In the long jump, Bryce Ray (Sun City, FL / Sumner) placed second with a mark of 6.78;
  • Riley Payne (Hamilton, OH / Trenton Edgewood) took third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.42;
  • Dashawn Seye (Centerville, OH / Centerville) finished fifth in the 400 meters;
  • Owen Bier (Elyria, OH / Midview) placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.88
  • Wittenberg's 4x400-meter relay of Mason Duncan (Cardington, OH / Highland), Bier, Simmons, and Neal Godfrey (Columbus, OH / St. Francis DeSales) finished second in 3:25.64.

For the Tiger women at Denison, two Wittenberg athletes won their individual events: Abbey Danne (Johnstown, OH / Big Walnut) won the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.66; and Meghan Frazier (Alliance, OH / Alliance) won the 200 meters in 25.56. In addition, Wittenberg's 4x400-meter relay of Kyngston Collins (Dayton, OH / Belmont), Danne, Bre Glover (Columbus, OH / Groveport Madison), and Meghan Frazier (Alliance, OH / Alliance) took the top spot in a time of 4:04.29.

Other top-five finishes for Wittenberg's women at Denison were:

  • Ziciah Gibson (Cambridge, OH / Cambridge) placed third in the javelin with a mark of 33.36 meters;
  • In the high jump, Taylor Weiss (Powell, OH / Olentangy Liberty) finished second with a mark of 1.52 meters and Izzy Henderson (East Liberty, OH / Benjamin Logan) took fourth with a mark of 1.52 meters;
  • Henderson placed fifth in the 200 meters in 26.26;
  • Lexie Greer (Venedocia, OH / Spencerville) placed fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.18 meters;
  • Lainee Valentine (Marion, OH / River Valley) placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.06 meters;
  • Julissa Williams (Lorain, OH / Lorain) placed second in the long jump with a mark of 10.73 meters and Reese Neumeyer (Whitehouse, OH / Anthony Wayne) finished fourth with a mark of 10.27 meters;
  • Cayla Eaton (North Lewisburg, OH / Triad) placed third in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.36;
  • In the 400 meters, Tymeerah De'Armond (Springfield, OH / Springfield) finished fifth in a time of 1:02.06;
  • In the 100 meters, Henderson finished third and Zora Shakhan (Pickerington, OH / Pickerington Central) placed fourth in times of 12.45 and 12.66, respectively.
