Callinan earns All-NCAC honors as Men's, Women's Indoor Track and Field open NCAC Championships in multi events

GAMBIER — The Wittenberg men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championships competing in the heptathlon and pentathlon, respectively, at Kenyon College. The men's heptathlon was contested on Saturday and Sunday, and all five events of the women's pentathlon were held on Sunday. Senior Sam Callinan (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) led the way for the Tigers, earning All-NCAC honors with a third-place finish in the heptathlon.

  • Denison's Jacob Brown won the heptathlon with 4,895 points, and Oberlin's Hayden Hill won the pentathlon with 3,139 points.

Wittenberg Results - Heptathlon

  • Callinan and freshman Luke Amburgey (LaGrange, Ky./Oldham County) competed in the heptathlon for the Tigers. Callinan finished third of 12 with 4,204 points, and Amburgey was sixth with 4,049 points. They scored six and three team points, respectively, for the Tigers toward their NCAC Championships total.
  • On Saturday, Callinan finished fifth in the 60-meter dash in 7.45 seconds, fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.95 meters, 11th in the shot put with a mark of 7.29 meters and tied for fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.70 meters.
  • On Saturday, Amburgey finished 10th in the 60-meter dash in 7.65 seconds, fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.94 meters, third in the shot put with a mark of 10.53 meters and tied for fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.70 meters.
  • At the end of four events on Day 1, Amburgey was fourth in the standings with 2,301 points, and Callinan was eighth with 2,173 points.
  • On Sunday, Callinan finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.25 seconds, first in the pole vault with a mark of 4.13 meters and third in the 1,000 meters in 2:57.88.
  • On Sunday, Amburgey finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.39 seconds, eighth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.63 meters and eighth in the 1,000 meters in 3:10.05.

Wittenberg Results - Pentathlon

  • Junior Lainee Valentine (Marion, Ohio/River Valley) and sophomore Ziciah Gibson (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) competed in the pentathlon for the Tigers. Gibson finished fourth of 11 with 2,770 points, and Valentine was fifth with 2,753 points. They scored five and four team points, respectively, for the Tigers toward their NCAC Championships total.
  • Gibson finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in 10.36 seconds, fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.46 meters, second in the shot put with a mark of 11.08 meters, sixth in the long jump with a mark of 4.71 meters and seventh in the 800 meters in 2:49.84.
  • Valentine finished ninth in the 60-meter hurdles in 10.43 seconds, third in the high jump with a mark of 1.49 meters, fifth in the shot put with a mark of 9.04 meters, second in the long jump with a mark of 4.87 meters and fifth in the 800 meters in 2:44.88.
