Ramsey Sets School Record in Huntsman Family Invitational

Crawfordsville, IN- Wittenberg headed out to Indiana to compete at the Huntsman Family Invitational, hosted by Wabash College. The Tigers competed against Wabash, DePauw, and Rose-Hulman. Both the men's and women's sides were able to beat out Rose-Hulman while the men were also able to beat out DePauw for both teams to take home a second-place overall team finish.

Alexis Johnson picked up a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.92. Following Johnson was Stevie Plikerd at 13.08. Wittenberg was able to control the mid-distance and distance races with three first-place finishes from Sydney Khosla in the 800-meter run, Lauren Welker in the 1500-meter run, and Elizabeth Canright in the 5000-meter run.

Getting things started for the field events was Hannah Schartz with a first-place finish in the women's high jump with a height of 1.53m. Joining her on the podium was Johnson with her second top finish of the day in the long jump with a distance of 5.30m for first-place. Kara Owens grabbed a second-place finish in the triple jump, going 8.89m to pick up points for the Tigers. Wittenberg was also able to make an impact in the throwing events with Leah Vogt taking a second-place finish in the shot put and third place finish in the discus. Monet Allen was able to take second in the discus with a distance of 29.25m.

The women finished with an overall team score of 92 points for a second-place finish. The Tigers were beat out by DePauw by 21 points but were able to take down Rose-Hulman by six points.

On the men's side Matthew Drovdlic picked up the first top spot in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.11. Following Drovdlic was Matt Rogers at 11.14. Drovdlic came back in the 200-meter dash with a third-place finish for the Tigers at 22.66. Grabbing another first-place finish for the Tigers was Ezekiel Bennett in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.66.

Setting a new school record and claiming first-place in the 800-meter run was Deven Ramsey with a record time of 1:54.19. Wittenberg was able to pick up another top spot in the 1500-meter run with a 4:07.77 finish from Dak Smith who placed third. Grabbing another third-place finish was Cullen Sainey in the 5000-meter run at 15:53.19. Garrin Bachinski made it to the finals of the 110-meter hurdles and took home third place with a time of 15.89. The men's relay team made up of Austyn Albanese, Bennett, Ian McCandlish, and Ramsey finished in first with a time of 3:20.98 to pick up points towards Wittenberg's 67 total points.

In the field events for the Tigers was Vincent Roper with a second-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.83m. The men were able to beat out Rose-Hulman and DePauw for a second-place overall team finish with 67 points.

Up Next: The Tigers will be back in action on April 15th to take on Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio.
