Tigers Host Fighting Bishop in Dual Meet

Springfield, OH- The Tigers returned to The Steemer for a home meet against the Fighting Bishop of Ohio Wesleyan. The ranked Wittenberg women's team came out with seven first place finishes but fell behind OWU with a score of 81-58 while the men picked up nine first place finishes but it wouldn't be enough to take out the Fighting Bishops who landed 73 points over Wittenberg's 67 points.

The Women: Sophomore, Leah Vogt got things started on the women's side placing second in the women's weight throw and third in the women's shot put. Senior, Alexis Johnson picked up the Tigers first top spot with a first-place finish and distance of 5.63m in the women's long jump. Finishing behind Johnson was junior Stevie Plikerd with a 5.51m in the long jump. Plikerd didn't stop racking up points and picked up three first-place finishes in the women's triple jump, 60-meter dash prelims and finals.

Freshman, Corin Turkovich made an appearance at the top with a finishing time of 11:44.16 in the women's 3000-meter run, which helped add 11 points to Wittenberg's score. Alexis Gray would claim her first first-place finish of the day in the women's 1 mile with a 5:14.32 finish in the women's 1-mile run. Gray came back in the 4x400 meter relay with Jacqueline Hayes, Alana Papocchia, and Maxine Wishman to grab one more first-place finish for the Tigers with a time of 4:17.59.

The Men: Freshman, Sam Callinan got the first points on the men's side, placing third in the pole vault and height of 2.75m. Over at the men's high jump, freshman Vincent Roper picked up a first-place finish and a height of 1.77m. Senior, Zachary Guyer followed Roper with another first-place finish, going 6.58m in the men's long jump. Guyer came back with a second-place finish in the men's 60-meter hurdle and time of 8.66. Adding points for Wittenberg was freshman, Matthew Drovdlic who posted a 7.24 time and third-place finish in the men's 60-meter dash.

The Tigers dominated the men's 1 mile run with the first four spots being claimed by the Red and White. Leading the pack was junior, Ryan Zimmerman with a time of 4:28.23, followed by Cullen Sainey, Eli Schneider, and Dak Smith. Wittenberg continued to pick up points with sophomore, Ezekiel Bennett, who took the men's 40-meter dash with a time of 50.63. Following Bennett was Caden Zellner with a third-place finish and time of 53.05. Senior, Deven Ramsey took the top title in the men's 800 meter run as the lone Wittenberg runner with a finish of 1:55.96 to round out Wittenberg's induvial events. Ramsey came back in the 4x400 meter relay with Austyn Albanese, Chance Keller, and Ezekiel Bennett with a 3:26.25 time and first-place finish.

Up Next: Wittenberg will return home on February 26th to take on Wooster. Spectators will not be able to attend the meet in person but will be able to catch the events live at wittenbergtigers.com
