Wittenberg University’s men’s basketball program placed a national-best eight student-athletes on the 2012 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court in recognition of their athletic and academic accomplishments during the 2011-12 season.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Two months after reaching an NCAA Tournament Elite 8 for the 10th time in program history, the Wittenberg University men's basketball team was honored by Ohio Governor John Kasich in a ceremony at his residence in Columbus.

Wittenberg University’s Department of Athletics can boast of a variety of outstanding team and individual athletic accomplishments during the 2011-12 school year, in addition to another stellar performance by Tiger student-athletes in the classroom.

Wittenberg basketball standouts Clayton Black, class of 2012 from Lancaster, Ohio, and Sarah Watson, class of 2012 from Hudson, Ohio, have been selected to participate in the fourth annual Jump25.com/Ohio College All-Star Classic on Saturday, April 14, at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio.

A night after turning a tremendous defensive effort into an NCAA Division III Tournament Round of 16 victory, the Wittenberg Tigers had the tables swiftly turned by Illinois Wesleyan in a 70-49 national quarterfinal loss.

After more than 39 minutes of intense, back-and-forth action, the NCAA Division III Tournament clash between Wittenberg and North Central was decided by a tremendous defensive stand. The Tigers stood strong for more than 30 seconds to secure a 58-55 victory and a spot in the national quarterfinals for the 15th time in program history.

The Wittenberg Tigers made a trip south last weekend and came away with NCAA Division III Tournament wins over Birmingham-Southern and Carroll (Wisc.) to reach the Round of 16 for the 16th time in school history. Now the Tigers will make trip north to Wooster.

It couldn't have come at a better time. After struggling down the stretch of the 2011-12 season, the Wittenberg men's basketball team put together perhaps its finest performance to date in an 87-70 NCAA Division III Tournament victory over Carroll (Wisc.) in a game played at Transylvania University.

Wittenberg Men's Basketball Head Coach Bill Brown improved to 8-0 in first round NCAA Division III Tournament games as the Tigers overcame a lengthy delay due to inclement weather in the area to defeat Birmingham-Southern, 63-56.

The Wittenberg Tigers got new life on Monday, Feb. 27, when they were selected to participate in the 2012 NCAA Division III Tournament. The bid is Wittenberg's second in a row and national record 26th since the competition was created prior to the 1974-75 season.

The Tigers, who finished the 2011-12 regular season with a 21-6 overall record, will face Birmingham-Southern College in the first round at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky.

The top-seeded Tigers, ranked 17th nationally, improved to 21-5 overall after winning the NCAC regular season championship with a 14-2 record.
