Tiger Women’s Volleyball Pulls Off Big Win Over Hiram, 3-1
HIRAM, OH – The Tigers had more growl than the Terriers as Wittenberg's Women's Volleyball captured a clutch 3-1 road win over Hiram College on Saturday, Oct. 26, in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) match at Price Gymnasium.
The Tigers defeated the Terriers, 3-1, by set scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-27, 25-23 to overtake Hiram in the NCAC standings and move into a third-place tie with Ohio Wesleyan at 3-2 in the conference. Denison continues to hold on to first place at 5-0 and DePauw is second at 4-1. Wittenberg will host Wooster and Denison in its final two conference matches of the regular season on Oct. 29 and Nov. 2, respectively, with seeding for the conference tournament on the line. Wittenberg won the conference tournament last season.
With the win, Wittenberg improved to 12-8 overall, while Hiram dropped to 9-13 overall and 2-3 in the NCAC.
Wittenberg got big performances from Piper Ricketts (Morrow, OH / Little Miami) and Alana Bartulovic (Cleveland, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) in the kill department with Ricketts putting down 19 and Bartulovic landing 17. Ricketts also led the team in points with 21 and added two service aces and 16 digs on the day. Ally White (Harrison, OH / Harrison) led the team in digs with 25 and service aces with four. Cam Colahan (Vermilion, OH / Vermilion) had 22 digs. Mary Sulfridge (South Charleston, OH / Southeastern) led the team in assists with 32 and Celia Orr (Lexington, KY / Frederick Douglass) added 18.
Leaders for Hiram included Cate Maguire with 11 kills and Andrya Hanmore with 10. Kelly Hoffman tallied 21 assists and Brooke Norris had a team-high 23 digs.
While the scores were close, Wittenberg outscored Hiram 100-87 and led in kills 63-47. Wittenberg had a total of 190 total attacks, 59 assists, nine service aces, three solo blocks, and 108 digs. Hiram turned in 179 total attacks, 41 assists, four service aces, four solo blocks, and 87 digs.
Wittenberg leads the series that began in 1989 against Hiram 46-3. This was the Tigers 22nd win in a row over Hiram.
