Women’s Volleyball Moves Into Second Place By Beating Wooster

SPRINGFIELD, OH – A 3-1 victory over visiting Wooster secured Wittenberg Women's Volleyball a spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament. The win also moved the Tigers into a three-way tie for second place in the NCAC with Ohio Wesleyan and DePauw, with each team sporting a 4-2 conference record with one match remaining in the 2024 NCAC regular season.

Denison has clinched the NCAC regular season title and the opportunity to host the NCAC Tournament with a perfect 6-0 record. The only thing standing in the way of an undefeated regular season for the Big Red is a road trip to Springfield for a match against the Tigers that starts at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 2, in Pam Evans Smith Arena.

The Tigers rallied from a slow start and overcame a stumble in the third set to defeat Wooster by set scores of 25-16, 25-17, 23-25, and 25-22. The win gives Wittenberg an overall record of 13-8 (5-3 at home), while Wooster drops to 12-15 overall and 1-5 in the NCAC.

Statistically, Wittenberg was led by Alana Bartulovic (Cleveland, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) with 11 kills and 11.5 points and Kait Colahan (Vermilion, OH / Vermilion) added 10 kills and 10.5 points. Mary Sulfridge (South Charleston, OH / Southeastern) led the team in assists with 36 and added three service aces. Ally White (Harrison, OH / Harrison) had a big night in the dig category with 30 and added three service aces as well.

Team totals for Wittenberg included 46 kills, 143 total attacks, 44 assists, 12 service aces, 72 digs, and eight blocks.

Amelia Mitchell led Wooster with 15 kills and 20.5 points. Lucy Kinser recorded a team-high 21 digs and Tamara Turner added 19, while Emma Fleck led the team in assists with 26. Team totals for Wooster included 41 kills, 146 total attacks, 35 assists, 70 digs, and seven service aces.

In the series against Wooster that started in 1979, Wittenberg leads 45-3. This is Wittenberg's 40th win in a row over Wooster.
