Tigers Close Out 2019 Fall Classic Against No. 4 Berry & Heidelberg

Springfield, OH – The No. 14 Wittenberg women's volleyball team returned to action from Pam Evans Smith Arena on Saturday for day two of their annual Fall Classic. The Tigers started the day taking on No. 4 Berry College in a tightly contested battle between the two Top 25 programs. Wittenberg dropped the first match of the day 3-0 [25-16, 25-18, 25-13]. The Tigers dropped a tough four-set match 3-1 [25-21, 25-18, 29-25, 25-17] to the Student Princes of Heidelberg University to close out their annual Fall Classic on Saturday afternoon.

 

Match One Breakdown

The Tigers struggled to get the offense going to start the day, knocking down 20 kills on 94 total attacks. Cox led the Wittenberg attack with six kills to start the day, finishing with a .286 attacking percentage, adding two blocks to her credit. Paige Kucinic added five kills, with Sidney Reeder following up with four in the first match of the day. Taylor Yontz and Katie Hiestand each tallied 12 digs, helping keep the Tiger rally alive.

 

Match Two Breakdown

Wittenberg was forced to come from behind early, as the Student Princes took the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-18. The Tigers bounced back in the third to log their best hitting percentage of the match, smashing 14 kills on 28 total attacks with just five errors on 28 swings for a .321 hitting percentage. Olivia Young led the Tiger offense with 10 kills coming off of 25 total attacks, adding four digs and two blocks. Katie Springer tallied seven kills to go along with her four digs and three blocks on the match. Sidney Reeder and Hiestand each tallied five kills with Yontz adding 21 digs.
