Wittenberg Races Past NCAC Rival Oberlin, 3-0

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers took care of business Friday night, dispatching North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Oberlin, 3-0.

The Tigers moved to 13-2 overall on the 2008 season, including a 3-0 mark in the NCAC. The Yeowomen fell to 2-11 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The win was Wittenberg's 36th straight in NCAC regular season play and the 96th in the last 97 matches, dating back to the start of 1998 season.

Wittenberg was paced offensively by the nine kills of junior outside hitter Leslie Clark (Marion, Ohio/Harding) and the eight kills of senior right-side hitter Jackie Williams (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat), who hit .558 in the match. Junior settersErin Slattery (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) and Kendall Obreza (Gainesville, Fla./Oak Hall) dished out 19 and 12 assists, respectively.

Defensively, senior libero Laura Fender (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) showed the way with 19 digs, while freshman middle hitter Miranda Sagle (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) added three blocks in limited action. Rounding things out, senior outside hitter Kathleen Graham (Bowling Green, Ohio/St. Ursula) recorded a whopping five aces.

The Tigers return to Springfield High School for a tri-match Saturday. Wittenberg takes on NCAC rival Wooster at 11 a.m., followed by the Scots against Mount Union at 1 p.m. and the Tigers against Mount Union at 3 p.m.
