Wittenberg Stays Unbeaten In NCAC With Sweep At Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Wittenberg Tigers continued their march through the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), passing the quarter-pole with a 3-0 win at Allegheny.

The win moved the seventh-ranked Tigers to 16-2 overall and 5-0 in the 16-match 2008 NCAC schedule. The win, by scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-21, was Wittenberg's 38th in a row in NCAC regular season play and the 98th in the last 99 matches, dating back to the start of the 1998 season.

Wittenberg will try to make it 99 out of their last 100 Saturday at the scene of the lone "crime" of the last decade - as far as Tiger volleyball is concerned. Wittenberg travels to Hiram, which upset the Tigers in 2005, for a conference match at noon, followed by a match of national interest between Wittenberg and fifth-ranked Trinity (Texas).

Against Allegheny, which upset Hiram earlier this week, the Tigers spread the statistical wealth, as usual. The team leader in kills was senior right-side hitterJackie Williams (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) with eight kills, followed by senior middle hitter Jessica Kimble (Dennison, Ohio/Claymont) and sophomore right-side hitter Amy Cox (Newark, Ohio/Catholic) with six kills each. Kimble added a team-high three blocks.

Also of note was the play of senior libero Laura Fender (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula)with 19 digs and junior setter Erin Slattery (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) with 25 assists.
