Wittenberg defeats Juniata in Battle of Ranked Teams

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The eighth-ranked Wittenberg Tigers have designs on big things in 2004 - like contending for a national title. To do so, Wittenberg will have to find a way to beat the traditional NCAA Division III powerhouse programs - and there was no better place to start than on the season's opening night at third-ranked Juniata.

The news was good on Friday for the Tigers, as they captured an exciting 3-2 win over host Juniata in the latter's own tournament. Wittenberg captured the victory, just the second in the program's history against Juniata, by scores of 30-27, 30-27, 24-30, 23-30, 15-8.

Junior Emily Dixon was outstanding at the net, recording six blocks, and the Tigers got a great serving performance from senior Aubrey Anderson, who finished with five aces. Senior Emilie Schmid was stellar as usual on defense, contributing 34 digs, senior Kristin Fox showed the way offensively with 18 kills and senior Sarah Yuskewich distributed 55 assists.
