Roller, Flick post hat tricks to lead Women's Lacrosse in 15-9 loss to Ohio Wesleyan

SPRINGFIELD — Sophomore Anna Roller (New Albany, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) and senior Jessica Flick (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) both recorded hat tricks to lead the Wittenberg women's lacrosse team in a 15-9 loss to Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday.

  • Roller led the Tigers with five points on four goals and one assist. She has seven hat tricks this season.
  • Flick tallied four points on three goals and one assist. She has 12 hat tricks this season.
  • Sophomore Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) and freshman Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) scored one goal each. Wyse also had a team-high seven draw controls.
  • Sophomore Maren Raymond (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) recorded one assist.
  • Freshman Margaret Pickrel (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) led Wittenberg in caused turnovers with three.
  • In goal for the Tigers, junior Sidney Sheridan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) recorded 13 saves in 45 minutes, and junior Gabrielle Weckerly (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) had four saves in 15 minutes.
  • Nicole Klabus led the OWU offense with five points on four goals and one assist.

The Game

  • Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with two straight goals, but the Tigers answered with scores from Flick and Meek to tie the score at 2-2.
  • The Battling Bishops closed the first quarter with a 4-0 scoring run over the final 6:49 for a 6-2 lead going into the second.
  • OWU extended that scoring run to 8-0 through the start of the second quarter, taking a 10-2 lead.
  • Wittenberg responded with back-to-back goals from Roller to cut the deficit to six, 10-4, with 1:40 left in the opening half. The Bishops scored a goal with 1:06 remaining and took an 11-4 edge into intermission.
  • Flick scored just under two minutes into the third quarter, and the Tigers outscored the Bishops 3-2 in the period. Flick added a second goal with 9:27 left in the quarter, and Wyse scored with 2:11 remaining to bring Wittenberg within five, 12-7. But the Bishops scored with four seconds left to take a six-goal edge into the fourth quarter.
  • The teams scored two goals apiece over the final 15 minutes. Roller accounted for both of the Tigers' goals in the fourth quarter.
  • OWU out-shot Wittenberg by a 45-20 margin and won 15 of the 27 draw controls. The Bishops finished with a 35-23 edge in ground balls.
