SPRINGFIELD, Illinois—Wittenberg women's golf traveled to Springfield, Illinois over the weekend to compete in the 2018 University of Illinois-Springfield Invitational. The Tigers were greeted by some of the better teams in all of NCAA Division II, but the Tigers held their own, finishing in third place as a team. The Tigers carded a two-day total of 615, 15 strokes behind second place Missouri University-St. Louis. Findlay University won the tournament with a two-day score of 581.
Wittenberg was led by Jane Hopkinson-Wood who finished +1 on the weekend after firing back-to-back rounds of 72 and 73. Hopkinson-Wood's two-day total of 145 was three-shots off the lead, and one shot behind Mackenzie Torres of Findlay for second place.
"So incredibly proud of efforts this weekend. This was a really good Division II field with four likely postseason teams in it. I really like some things we are doing right now and we can't wait to get to conference next weekend," said Coach Leotta.
Madi Wolters kept her strong Spring going with a T9 finish, as the sophomore finished +8 after carding rounds of 75-77. Brianna Yee finished just outside the top-20 for Wittenberg, as the senior finished T21 at the Panther Creek Country Club Course, with a round of 81 on day one, and 75 on day two.
Wittenberg now awaits the 2018 NCAC Championships on April 27 and 28.
