Tigers Fall Short in Conference Clash with Denison
Granville, OH - The Tigers came up short in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) clash against nationally ranked Denison, one of the top offensive teams in the conference. The loss marks a pivotal moment in the conference standings as the season heads into its final stretch.
The result puts Wittenberg at 4-9 overall and 1-6 in the NCAC, while Denison improves to 12-4 overall and 7-0 in the NCAC.
In the first quarter, Big Red found the back of the net 10 times, Wittenberg's Nathan Brown (Dublin, OH / Coffman) was able to find the net to be the lone scorer, to put the qaurter 10-1 heading into the second. Denison stayed aggressive with another six goals in the second quarter, while Wittenberg's offense stalled, unable to find the back of the net — sending the Tigers into halftime trailing 16-1.
In the third quarter, Wittenberg turned up the tempo on offense, breaking through Denison's defense to notch four goals. Nicholas Langenderfer (Montgomery, OH / St. Xavier), Ethan Pac (Greenwood, IN / Cathedral), Clay Habben (Shawnee, KS / Shawnee Mission Northwest), and Brown where responsible for the tempo breakthrough. Brown and Andrew Owen (Springfield, OH / Springfield) helped obtain the goals with one assist each. Denison continued their strong offense scoring three more goals. In the final quarter, both Wittenberg and Denison held a strong defense. The Tigers lone scorer was Dillon McKeigue (Olmstead Township, OH / St. Edward), while Big Red was able to score twice on the Tigers to make the final score 21-6 in favor of Denison.

- Brown led the Tigers in goals, finding the back of the net twice.
- Langenderfer, McKeigue, Pac, and Habbenand each found the back of the net once.
- Brown and Owen each logged an assist to have the team lead as well.
- Max Benincasa (Shaker Heights, OH / Shaker Heights) and Charlie Frederick (Chagrin Falls, OH / Chagrin Falls) paced the team in ground balls with two.
- McKeigue also led the team in caused turovers totaling three.

- Denison led the Tigers in almost all statistics aside from turnovers, which Wittenberg led 21-20.
The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, April 23rd, at home as they take on DePauw with the game set to start at 7:00 p.m.
