SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Seven new inductees into Wittenberg University's Athletics Hall of Honor were announced Saturday at the annual Varsity "W" breakfast held during Alumni Weekend.

The new inductees are Brian Agler '80, basketball; Roger Beach '65, tennis; Richard Caton '41, football, basketball, baseball; Bob Hamilton '63, basketball; Harvey Miller 1895, football; Fred Mitchell '69, football; and Linda Williams King '71, field hockey, volleyball basketball, softball, lacrosse. They will be formally inducted on Sept. 23 at a mid-morning brunch, which is open to the public, and introduced at halftime of Wittenberg's football game against Allegheny College.

Agler led Wittenberg to its only NCAA Division III championship in basketball as a point guard in 1977. He was named most valuable player in the Ohio Athletic Conference and first-team All-America as a senior in 1980 and is still the school's career assist leader with 481. He is now the women's basketball coach at Kansas State University.

Beach is considered one of the greatest tennis players in Wittenberg history. In four years he never lost to an Ohio Athletic Conference opponent, winning four straight league titles and won two doubles crowns. He is now a resident of Dayton and involved in computer programming.

Caton earned three letters each in football, basketball and baseball and was a mainstay on the Tigers' 1940 undefeated grid team. Retired from the Kettering Public Schools, he still resides in Kettering.

Hamilton not only starred on the basketball floor but he later coached Tiger teams to great heights. As a two-year starter under coaches Ray Mears and Eldon Miller, he helped Wittenberg to the NCAA College Division championship in 1961 and runner-up finish in 1963. He later succeeded Miller as head coach and led the Tigers to the up spot in the 1976 NCAA Divsion III tournament. In six years he had a (.758) record with four OAC titles and three OAC tournament crowns. In was selected Division III and Ohio Coach of the Year. Hamilton, who left Wittenberg in 1976 to become head coach at the U.S. Naval Academy, is now a resident of Worthington and is a financial planner.

Miller had the distinction of serving as captain of Wittenberg's very first football team in 1892. He was instrumental in the Tigers' 6-0 victory over Ohio State in 1894. He later became managing editor of the Springfield Sun.

Mitchell was one of the first placekicking specialists in college football. In his four-year career between 1965 and 1968 he set an NCAA College Division record for career kick scoring, 12 school records and five OAC marks and still holds the school mark career extra points with 106. The Gary, Ind. native has been a sportswriter for the Chicago Tribune for 21 years covering the Chicago Bears for the last eight years.

King distinguished herself as a top all-around athlete, playing field hockey, volleyball, basketball, softball and lacrosse. She served as captain of the basketball team in 1971. Now a faculty member at Milligan College in Tennessee, she also coaches softball and volleyball.
