Tigers Open Season at Home in Wittenberg Invite

Springfield, OH- The Tigers opened their 2022 season at home in a double header against NCAA Division I Mount St. Marys and Division II Mercyhurst. Wittenberg was able to put up a total of 15 points between the two match-ups but ultimately fell in both matches with a score of 18-7 against Mount St. Mary's and 12-8 against Mercyhurst.

The #10 Tigers would look to freshman, Sierra Bui and senior, Emma Menjivar in game one against Mount St. Mary's. The pair netted two points each along with goals from Savannah Cross, Grace McLaughlin, and Megan Lythgoe. Despite being out scored, Wittenberg was able to get through Mount St. Mary's defense in each quarter for a total of seven points. The Red & White fell with a final score of 18-7 against the Division I challengers.

Wittenberg's second match-up of the day proved to show a more aggressive Wittenberg team who slowed Mercyhurst offense to 12 goals. The Red & White put up eight goals in their second match with four Tigers scoring. The Tigers looked to 2021 All-America honoree Grace McLaughlin who put up four goals against the Lakers. Along with McLaughlin, Wittenberg offense consisted of Kiersten Heverly, Meghan Lythgoe, Tessa Crown, and Sierra Bui with one goal each.

Wittenberg Leaders- Wittenberg's opening weekend was led by Grace McLaughlin with five goals on the day followed by freshman Sierra Bui with three.

Up Next- The Tigers will return to action on February 19th for the Macalester Tournament. They will take on Chapman at 11:30AM followed by Occidental at 4:15PM.
