Clean Sweep For Tigers

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg Water Polo hosted the CWPA Regional Tournament this past weekend. The Tigers, currently #3 in preseason polls, hosted #5 Penn State Behrend and #2 Carthage College, ultimately defeating both for a clean sweep of the weekend. Utility Grace McLaughlin led the Tigers offense totaling 13 goals for the weekend. Goalie Jordan Brough defended the Tigers goal tallying up a total of over 15 blocks for the weekend. 

Game One Breakdown 

The Tigers kept Penn State Behrend to one goal within the first half with strong defense. Attacker Elizabeth Schexnaider, collected three steals against the Lions, providing the Tigers with many more opportunities on offense. Shelby Carroll managed to draw 3 exclusions from driving, allowing the Tigers several man up situations to fuel their offense and gain a lead and defeat the Lions 9-5. 

Game Two Breakdown 

Facing #2 conference rival, the Tigers came out to prove them belong in the top two of the conference. McLaughlin led the Tigers offense with 8 goals against the Firebirds. Center Meghan Lythgoe provided the Tigers with man up possessions by drawing 3 exclusions out of center, giving the team opportunities to use their 6 on 5 strategy. By halftime the Tigers were leading by 5 goals, ultimately defeating the Firebirds 20-9.   

UP NEXT: The Tigers host Carthage at home Friday, March 26, then take to the road to face Grove City Saturday, March 27.
