Tigers Split Weekend Match-Ups

Grove City, PAWittenberg's Women's Water Polo team returned to play after their season ended short in Spring of 2020. The Tigers came out strong in their game against conference opponent Grove City College, with a final score of 20-11. With six new additions to the team this year, the Tigers split their weekend falling short against division two, Mercyhurst University with a final score of 17-5Leading the Tigers in goals this weekend was freshman Grace McLaughlin, with eight goals. Trailing behind McLaughlin was junior Emma Menjivar with six goals for the weekend. Freshman goalie, Jordan Brough made her debut for the Tigers a memorable one playing six quarters with over 15 blocks. 

Game One Breakdown 

Freshman Shelby Carroll established the Tiger's lead over the Wolverines with two back-to-back goals in the first quarter, tallying a total of six goals in the first game. Returning goalie Caroline Coleman kept the Wolverines to five goals at half time with her defense in the cage. The Tigers defense was led by McLauglin and Kailey Cordova who came together for a total of 13 steals, fueling their offense to defeat the Wolverines 20-11. 

Game Two Breakdown 

In their second game against division two Mercyhurst University, McLaughlin came out strong with the first goal of the game. By the second half, the Lakers held off the Tigers with Menjivar scoring the only Tiger goal in the second quarter, leaving the Tigers trailing 2-8. Brough kept the lakers from scoring nine goals with fast reactions and blocks in the cage.  In the second half of the game, Kiersten Heverly, McLaughlin, and Menjivar each found the back of the net once, ultimately falling to the Lakers 5-17.
