Springfield, Ohio – The No. 3 Wittenberg women's volleyball team took down North Coast Athletic Conference rival DePauw University in straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-23) on Tuesday evening from Pam Evans Smith Arena. The Tigers would garner a .202 attacking percentage on the night while holding the visiting Tigers from DePauw to -.032. Wittenberg moves to 17-2 on the season and 6-0 in NCAC action.

WHO STOOD OUT:

The Wittenberg offensive charge was spearheaded by Aubrey Cox, logging a double-double on the night with 10 kills and 10 blocks for the Tigers. Taylor Brown followed up with eight kills and posting six blocks, along with providing nine digs. Karen Wildemann provided 29 assists on the night, adding eight digs and two kills.

First Set Breakdown

Wittenberg would take an early lead, quickly jumping out to a 12-6 advantage to start the match. Wittenberg extended their lead to as many as ten in the first set, leading 16-6. DePauw would attempt to sneak back in the match, going on a four-point run and bringing the match to 18-12. Brown would spark the final Wittenberg scoring run at 21-13, as the Tigers would go on to take the first set 25-15.

Second Set Breakdown

Wittenberg would jump out to an early 10-2 lead in the second set. The host Tigers would maintain their advantage throughout the set, keeping a comfortable double-digit. Wittenberg would see their largest lead extended out to a12-point lead two times during the second set at 16-4 and then again at 21-9. The Wildemann service rally got the Tigers one point away from the win in the second set before DePauw would make one final comeback effort.

Third Set Breakdown

DePauw would keep it close through the early going, keeping things knotted up at 6-6 through the early going. Wittenberg would be playing from behind for the first time on the night, as DePauw would find back-to-back scoring stints, going up 9-6 and then 16-9. Wittenberg would show its resiliency, going on a scoring run of their own. Wittenberg overcame the DePauw advantage, taking the lead at 21-18 before DePauw was able to stop the rally. Once Wittenberg was back ahead, they would have to fend off the final DePauw comeback efforts. As DePauw would come back to even things up at 21-21, and then 23-23, Wittenberg would win the race to 25 for the win.
