Brea Medlock Qualifies For NCAA Division III Indoor Championships

Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University women’s track and field sprinter Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut) has qualified to compete in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships March 11-12 at the Bear Athletic Center at Grinnell College.

Medlock, a senior, is making her second straight national appearance in the indoor championships and will again compete in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. She also competed in the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 200-meter dash.

“I am thrilled for Brea,” said Wittenberg Track and Field Head Coach Paris Hilliard. “To see her grow and mature over the last four years and see all of her hard work pay off is truly rewarding as a coach.

“This will be her second year in a row competing at the highest level, the national meet. I'm so proud of her, and hopefully she can come back as an All-American.”

Medlock is one of 17 runners qualified to compete in the 60-meter dash. She enters the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships ranked 14th in the event with a time of 7.73. Nia Joiner of Illinois Wesleyan ranks first with a time of 7.51.

In the 200-meter dash, Medlock ranks ninth out of 17 qualified runners with a time of 25.35. Meg Heafy of Wisconsin-La Crosse leads the pack with a time of 24.86.

Most recently, Medlock picked up her second straight North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Indoor Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year award after another record-setting performance at the league championships March 4-5 at Kenyon. For the second straight year, Medlock broke the school record in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, and her time of 7.73 in the 60-meter dash also broke her own NCAC meet record.

In addition, Medlock ran the anchor leg of two all-conference relays as the Tigers finished first in both the 4x200-meter and 4x400-meter relay races. The four indoor All-NCAC finishes ran Medlock’s career total to 10, in addition to 11 outdoor All-NCAC awards in her first three collegiate seasons. Medlock also earned NCAC Outdoor Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year at the 2015 league championship meet.

Medlock, who is one of 15 NCAC student-athletes qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, will attempt to improve upon her 2015 finishes in the meet. Last year, Medlock placed 17th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.87 and 14th in the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.78 in a meet that took place in Winston-Salem, NC.

Competition times for each event will be announced on Tuesday, March 8.
