Women's Tennis gets 8-1 victory at Oberlin

OBERLIN — The Wittenberg women's tennis team defeated Oberlin 8-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday. The Tigers earned their 11th victory of the season, marking their most single-season wins since they finished 12-12 in 2011-12.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (11-4 overall, 2-2 NCAC), Oberlin (1-14 overall, 0-4 NCAC)
  • Venue: Hunsinger Courts - Oberlin, Ohio
  • Junior Caroline Sproule (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) is ranked among the top eight singles players in NCAA Division III Region 5 in the latest rankings, which were released on April 15.
  • Freshman Lilly Hartman (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) is the reigning NCAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
  • Wittenberg is now 17-23 all-time against Oberlin.

The Match

  • Wittenberg won two of the three doubles courts and swept all six singles courts.
  • Sproule, Hartman and freshmen Kylie Wilson (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) and Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) all went 2-0 on the day.
  • Sproule and Wilson won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Loomis and Hartman won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
  • In singles play, Sproule won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1, Wilson won 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 at No. 2, Loomis won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4, and Hartman won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
  • Freshmen Sophia Pischalko (Granger, Ind./Penn) and Breanna Ball (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy) fell 6-8 at No. 2 doubles.
  • In singles play, Pischalko won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3, and Ball won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
